Mendon police lieutenant given paid leave during misconduct investigation

The Telegram & Gazette reports:

Police Chief Ernest Horn said he placed Lt. Donald R. Blanchette on paid administrative leave earlier this month while an internal investigation is being done by the office of Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.

Citing a policy not to discuss personnel issues, Chief Horn declined to disclose the nature of the probe, which he said he is monitoring.

“When the investigation is complete and I have an opportunity to discuss it with the district attorney’s office, I will take whatever action is appropriate, and maybe comment further on it,” he said Thursday.

The chief said the lieutenant was placed on leave about Oct. 7.

The department has 14 officers.

“It’s a high-level command officer,” Chief Horn said, “so of course it places me in a bind.”
